Dairy free chocolate hot cross buns.

I personally love them, I love the smell, the texture and the sweet flavour of a nice freshly baked hot cross bun. Do you?

I made my version today, dairy free, whole meal and with chocolate. You can personalise yours just as you like them. Simple and easy make them the night ready for the morning.

Let’s get dirty:

Ingredients

  • 600 gr whole meal flour
  • 400 gr coconut milk
  • 5 gr salt
  • 50 gr sugar
  • 60 gr coconut butter
  • 1 tsp ginger powder
  • 1 tsp nutmeg powder
  • 1 tbsp cinnamon
  • 14 gr yeast
  • 100 gr cranberries
  • 60 gr cocoa powder
  • 2 eggs

Preparation:Mix all your wet ingredients into a bowl. Add your dry ingredients and start Kneading the mixture until it becomes nice and smooth. It will take you roughly 10-15 minutes.

Let it prove until it doubles in size, knock it back down and cut the dough into 12 small buns and roll them. Put them on bling tray lined with baking paper with 1 cm distance between each bun.

Let it prove until It doubles in size again and make the famous cross on top making a parte with 1/2 cup flour and 7 tbsp of water, use a piping bag to draw the lines. Bake at 170 Celsius degrees for 25-30 minutes. Once the buns are baked brush them with a thick sugar syrup made with 100 g water and 100 gr sugar.

Let them cool down and enjoy them on Easter…
